There will be zombies. There will be shrimp. And there will be zydeco.

There will also be sword swallowing, a drag queen pageant and a living statue.

Taken all together, the 2015 edition of Mardi Gras Winnipeg promises to be a big, bad bash of the highest order.

This year’s event, the 10th annual, runs February 13 and 14. Like last year, all the favourite food, music and costumed revellers will be back in full force.

In a mid-January preview, a room full of local media sampled the sights, sounds and tastes of this year’s gala.

We ate Lousiana-style shrimp with pasta, Mardi Gras chicken with andouille creole on New Orleans black-eyed pea rice, Bourbon Street Jambalaya with shrimp, chorizo and blackened chicken. The kitchen crew always put on an impressive spread. This year will be no different.

The event is one of the biggest parties thrown by the RBC Convention Centre each year. (New Year’s Eve is also a wild and wonderful event at the downtown facility with thousands of partygoers whooping it up every year.)
